The virtual reality model recreates an ancient environment. The model is the result of a collaboration between the J. Paul Getty Trust and the School of Arts and Architecture at the University of California at Los Angeles. Virtual reality provides the ability to explore, interpret, classify and reconstruct the past in new and more exciting ways. As a research tool for archaeologists, historians and architects it provides a powerful way of storing, managing and retrieving a vast amount of information. It has enormous conservation potential, since it allows for non-destructive reconstruction and restoration. It is also a significant alternative for presenting archaeological sites and monuments to an ever growing and demanding public. As an educational tool, virtual reality is allowing students of all ages the opportunity to visit and experience ancient environments. These are only some of the posibilities that this film explores.
