This film was made to coincide with an exhibition at the National Archaeological Museum. It focuses on the Ancient Greek philosophical notion of Agon –“the contest”– as an attitude to life. The concept of agon is present throughout antiquity, from the dialectics of Heraclitus, the mythical Hercules and his tasks, all the way to the athletic contests or games at Olympia, Nemea, Corinth and Delphi. The film makes reference to spiritual contests –to philosophy, poetry and sculpture– ending with the contest or struggle for and in everyday life and human fate, which fuels such contests perpetually.
